RAIPUR: At least 10 paramilitary jawans and a driver were killed on Thursday in a powerful landmine blast triggered by Maoists in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh, police said.
The incident took place when the ultra-Left rebels set off an explosion at the Konta forest area, bordering Andhra Pradesh, that ripped through a jeep killing 10 jawans of the Mizoram battalion deployed in the district for counter-insurgency operations.

Bastar range IG R K Vij said the incident took place when the paramilitary jawans — who had gone to Konta weekly market — were headed for Banda.
"A powerful blast ripped through the jeep carrying the jawans when it reached Murliguda village. At least 70 jawans of the Mizoram battalion are posted in Banda," Vij said, adding that the blast was so powerful that body parts of the victims were scattered in a radius of 150 metres.
Additional forces have been rushed to the area, Vij said, adding that the death toll may go up as police are yet to ascertain the exact number of jawans travelling on the jeep.
A senior officer said the jawans had violated standing instructions and security norms of not travelling in a vehicle until the road is cleared. "Though they had walked to the weekly market for purchasing grocery, they made a mistake boarding a vehicle on their return journey," he said.
